In 2002, the Archbishop, Peter Jensen asked me to lead the Diocesan Women’s Ministry Team to oversee equipping women for ministry in the Sydney Diocese. Our aims are:
To encourage women with the vision that they are redeemed by God for the purposes of glorifying and serving him, being ready to give an answer to others for the hope they have in Christ.
To forward the training and equipping of women as proclaimers of the gospel, disciplers and Bible teachers.
To develop structures for the support, encouragement and ongoing training of women in ministry.
To foster the development of women’s ministry and to encourage the opening of opportunities for the employment of trained women.
As well as this Diocesan role, I am also the Principal of Mary Andrews College.
I became Principal of the College in 1985 when it was called Deaconess House.
I came to the College from university ministry with St Matthias at UNSW. Prior to this, I was involved in ‘free-lance’ ministry for some time, worked with Scripture Union as a staff worker and taught Christian studies at Kambala.
I became a Christian at Sydney Girls High, (through the ISCF group there), while in my first year of teaching. From there I moved to Newtown to train at Moore Theological College.
The mission statement at Mary Andrews College is to ‘equip women to serve Christ’. Out of this mission statement have come various ministry equipping activities, such as our ministry to university students, training women theological students with Moore Theological College, the development of a Bible and ministry equipping course for lay women as well as organising many other women’s conferences and training days.
Speaking personally, apart from my love of training women for ministry, I enjoy U2, Dire Straits, Midnight Oil, Mozart and all things Bach. The latest book I have enjoyed reading is A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry, and I have been reading Deuteronomy and Psalms. I love being near beaches, swimming, bushwalking, friends, teaching the Bible and meeting with God’s people at St Paul’s, South Coogee.
