Welcome

Welcome to the web page for Bishop Peter Tasker and the Georges River Region

Peter Tasker is the Bishop of the Georges River Region. He follows Bishop Ray Smith who was Bishop of the region for eight years.

Prior to his appointment Peter Tasker was the rector of St Luke’s, Dapto, south of Wollongong. The parish saw much growth under his ministry.

After theological studies at Moore College, and two curacies, Peter Tasker served as a CMS missionary in Singapore and West Malaysia from 1969 until 1976. From 1978 until 1992, he was the NSW General Secretary of CMS. He became rector of Dapto in 1992, and also a Canon of St Michael’s, Wollongong in 1997.

Bishop Tasker’s experience as a missionary was key to his appointment to the multicultural Georges River region. “He is a missionary, and the region is one that needs a missionary spirit and impetus,” Archbishop Peter Jensen says. “Furthermore, he will be able to offer me direct advice and help in relation to the calls that are made upon me by other Dioceses in the Anglican Communion. Second, he has a broad and deep experience of people, of recruiting, encouraging and stimulating people in ministry.”
